In advance of the inaugural ING Capital Criterium tomorrow, DC Velo hosted Christian Vande Velde (5th place in this year's Tour de France) and Garmin Chipotle team director Jonathon Vaughters for a little meet and greet and Q&A. So after I got my ass kicked on the 7am ride (which was populated with pros in town for the race tomorrow -- no that guy wearing the Rock Racing shorts was not a poser, he was reigning US Crit champ Rahsann Bahati -- oh), Jake & I wondered over to the little gathering.
We didn't have anything for him to sign, so I just took Jake's picture with CVV. (I didn't realize Jake's glasses were so askew or I'd taken another)
Chris Marrow & wife Erica were there with 2 week old Emily (looking for some sort of TdF blessing of her or somthing ;-)
So we had to leave early to pick up Liam from baseball, so I gave our 2 raffle tickets to Bill Cusmano and just asked him to let me know if we won anything (ha ha, I never win raffles). So here's the e-mail I get from him later that afternoon on my Blackberry "Well, of the three tix I had, two won, guess which two? You won a jersey, signed by JV and CVDV, and you won a $200 gift certificate from Cyclelife. I, on the other had, upon pointing out that neither of my multiple wins actually was mine, was congratulated for my honesty." Bill is great. I'm going to have to have him hold some lottery tickets for me or something. And buy him coffee. So, that's cool (although I'm not sure what we're supposed to do with the autographed jersey. Not going to wear it obviously).
Tomorrow is Charm City Cross. My tendinitis is flared up after this morning's ride. And lord knows that ride did nothing positive for my confidence. So, we'll just see how this goes and look toward being good later in the season.
Love VdV!
