Holy Crap! 72 people pre-registered for the Charm City Masters 3/4 race (aka "Masters B"). When they announced this category, I thought it would be great to get out of the hyper competitive B race and go against some other people who, you know, are old and have families and jobs. I had done a Masters B race at Granogue and also at Reston and really enjoyed it. Now it looks like most of the people who used to race B have just switched over, along with a bunch who used to do the "Masters" (which is now "Elite Masters"). So just like last year, Charm City will have 80 people in my race. I pre-registered early, and they line you up based on that, but traffic will still be a nightmare. A friend of mine who is with Charm City Cycling has let me know that they are changing the start to avoid the pile up that happened last year, but it will still be interesting.
I'm in decent shape and practice went well on Wednesday, but I hate traffic. I'm going to have to get my head straight before Sunday.
Even Jake's race has 9 or 10 kids, which is 3 times more than last year. No automatic podium for him this year.
Last weekend's Murad Road Race was a traffic nightmare, with 80 Cat 4s crammed into a single lane with no hills and nothing to break them up. It was like being on the Beltway at rush hour, including the road rage and crashes. Just a stupid stupid race.
