How exciting, we've broken records for the most snow in a winter in DC, ever, and the most snow in a week, etc. I don't know the exact totals, but think in the neighbor hood of 3 to 4 FEET.
Tuesday Wednesday brought a second blizzard in a matter of days. This was white out conditions with high winds. the drifting made measurement difficult or impossible, but we got about another foot or so.
The ice damn coming off the top roof is sending water down the wall and into the basement
We were out at 10pm Tuesday trying to use plastic sheeting or something to redirect the water. This is what I hammered loose off the steps at 10pm
There was 3 inches of solid ice.
Then yesterday I decided I just had to try and clear some of it, but the ladder was in the back yard by the shed. The snow was literally hip deep. My 20 year old LL bean boots let snow in, so I asked Loren to go across in her arctic expedition grade boots. This is the result:
I then used the sled and crawled across behind her because we had to dig the ladder out. I went up on the ladder and she held it, and she ended up getting whacked with a piece of ice in the lip.
But that was to no avail, still water coming in to the basement all night (just a trickle). We've got fans blowing and towels down, which generally contains it.
Today we need to move a lot of snow to make sure when it melts it isn't melting into the area that will pool into the basement. Loren and the boys walked out to go to the grocery store.
The house is surrounded by icecicles this morning, as are the neighbors, as the strong sun melts the sun on the roof but then it immediately freezes coming down.
For perspective, the blade of that shovel is 12 inches or so, and it's down to the sidewalk, and then the shovel itself shows how high the snow is in that spot.
I'm just going to dump a bunch of pictures now:
