For the relatives, here's a video of Jake's finish in the 10-14 race on Saturday. He's sprinting with a boy from Pennsylvania for 1st in the 10-14 race. The boys that come across a few seconds before are from the top-10 of the 15-18 race that was run at the same time.
He just missed the win.
Jake and 2 other boys from the 10-14 were riding with a group of 15-18 boys for the entire race. Tanner Brown got dropped by Jake and the boy from PA (Stuart, a nice kid) w/ about 3 laps to go when Stuart opened a gap on the hill that only Jake could cross.
I won't go into the ensuing nightmare over the official results. The officials initially listed 7 people between Jake and that kid. I showed them this video and other kids told them that they were not there, but in the end, last I saw they still insisted that Jake was third in the 10-14. I know scoring a race like this that broke apart is hard, but this was very frustrating. I can only imagine how frustrating it would have been if Jake had won the sprint. Hopefully at the end of the day they fixed it, but I haven't seen "official" posted results.
Jake's teammate Taylor Arney crushed the 15-18 race, riding away from the field and winning by minutes. That kid will be the next big thing. Drew Teitlebaum did well, riding a consistent race and catching some folks on the last lap.
I started the 35+ race at 11:30. I can't say I "raced." That would be inaccurate and too generous of my short sad effort.
